Martin Scorsese directs Leonardo DiCaprio in this 1954-set psychological thriller based on Dennis Lehane’s novel. DiCaprio plays Teddy Daniels, a U.S. Marshal who arrives at Shutter Island, a hospital for the criminally insane, to investigate the disappearance of a patient. Accompanied by his partner Chuck (Mark Ruffalo), Teddy questions the institution’s head, Dr. Cawley (Ben Kingsley), and grows suspicious that he is not receiving truthful answers. As Teddy digs deeper, he discovers that the arsonist responsible for his wife’s death is imprisoned on the island, and he must confront both the hospital’s dark secrets and his own deteriorating grip on reality before a hurricane traps him there permanently.
