Sviatoslav Richter, widely regarded as one of the greatest pianists of the twentieth century, performs a collection of twentieth-century piano works on this 2008 Decca release. The program showcases masterworks from Russian composers including Stravinsky, Prokofiev, and Shostakovich, alongside pieces by Medtner and Ravel, spanning from substantial sonatas to character pieces that Richter made central to his interpretive legacy.

This CD contains eight tracks of piano music, including Stravinsky’s Piano-Rag-Music, Shostakovich’s Preludes and Fugues in E-flat major and C minor, and works such as Prokofiev’s Piano Sonata No. 2 in D minor and Ravel’s Variations. Volume 11 concludes Decca’s definitive Richter retrospective series, drawing from his distinguished recordings for Philips and Decca. Add this essential recording to your collection at a used price.
