Revival

CD Details

Revival is a 2009 rock album by Gillian Welch, produced by T-Bone Burnett. Welch, alongside her partner David Rawlings and a small group of supporting musicians, crafted songs that draw from the traditions of mountain and white gospel music. The album features primarily acoustic guitar-driven arrangements built around two-part harmonies, with Burnett adding subtle instrumental touches like upright bass and layered instrumentation on select tracks. Welch’s vocals remain understated and direct, delivering songs steeped in quiet melancholy and introspection that feel rooted in older musical traditions despite their contemporary composition.

This CD contains ten tracks including “Orphan Girl,” “Annabelle,” “Pass You By,” “Barroom Girls,” “One More Dollar,” “By the Mark,” “Paper Wings,” “Tear My Stillhouse Down,” “Acony Bell,” and “Only One and Only,” with a total runtime of approximately 41 minutes.
