Darren Aronofsky directs this 2000 double feature combining two of his early works. Requiem for a Dream stars Ellen Burstyn, Jared Leto, and Jennifer Connelly as four Coney Island residents whose lives unravel as addiction takes hold of their aspirations. The film, adapted by Aronofsky and Hubert Selby Jr., examines how substance abuse destroys dreams. Paired with it is Pi, Aronofsky’s earlier exploration of obsession and the search for mathematical patterns underlying reality.

Both films arrive on a single DVD from Artisan Entertainment with a combined runtime of 102 minutes. Each carries an R rating. This used copy offers a chance to experience two influential independent films from the director’s formative period at a fraction of retail cost.
