Requiem

CD Details

Requiem brings together two masterworks of French classical music. André Cluytens conducts the Choeurs Elisabeth Brasseur in Claude Debussy’s Images, a three-movement orchestral suite featuring Gigues, Ibéria, and Rondes De Printemps, alongside Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem Op. 48. Cluytens, a prolific conductor who signed with EMI’s French division in 1946, became known for his authoritative interpretations of French composers and later expanded into German and Austrian repertoire, even conducting at Bayreuth in the mid-1950s. His recordings of the French masters remain benchmarks of the era.

This CD presents digitally remastered performances sourced directly from original master tapes at Abbey Road Studios, part of EMI’s Masters series. The program spans Debussy’s orchestral imagery with tracks including Par Les Rues Et Par Les Chemins, Les Parfums De La Nuit, Le Matin D’un Jour De Fete, and Rondes De Printemps, plus Fauré’s sacred work with its Introït Et Kyrie.
