Pleasures of the Night is a 1998 soul-jazz collaboration between vocalist Will Downing and saxophonist Gerald Albright on Verve Records. Downing’s rich baritone pairs with Albright’s warm saxophone across a mix of standards and originals, including covers of “The Nearness of You,” “The Look of Love,” and “Here’s That Rainy Day,” alongside material by the Beatles and Stevie Wonder. Producer Ronnie Foster assembled a stellar supporting cast featuring keyboardists Patrice Rushen and Bobby Lyle, guitarist Paul Jackson, bassist Abe Laboriel, and drummer Harvey Mason to create an intimate, sophisticated sound perfect for evening listening.

This CD contains ten tracks with a total runtime of approximately 52 minutes. Downing steps away from his previous chart-driven work to explore his jazz sensibilities, while Albright demonstrates his full range from subtle accompaniment to full instrumental showcase on tracks like “Back to the Roots.” A used copy from us means you can experience this smooth collaboration without the cost of a new release.
