CD Details
The Kentucky Headhunters’ 1989 debut album blends country traditions with rock energy, creating a sound that stood apart on country radio at the time. The band draws from rockabilly, western swing, and boogie-woogie influences across tracks like the opening “Walk Softly On This Heart Of Mine,” which pairs heavy guitar work with a Bill Monroe composition, and “Dumas Walker,” a country boogie that became known for its references to a Kentucky restaurant. The album also includes rocked-up covers of Don Gibson’s “Oh Lonesome Me” and Henson Cargill’s “Skip A Rope,” alongside originals such as “My Daddy Was A Milkman,” which channels Bo Diddley’s style with distinctive lyrics.
This is a single CD released by MCA Special Products, containing ten tracks with a total runtime of approximately 33 minutes. The album showcases the band’s willingness to experiment, though the results are uneven across its length. Grab this used copy and experience a country-rock hybrid from a group willing to push genre boundaries.
