Robert Fuchs (1847-1927) was a Viennese composer and close associate of Brahms who directed the Vienna Conservatory. His chamber works reflect the musical world of late 19th-century Vienna, blending late Romantic sensibilities with early 20th-century post-Romantic idioms reminiscent of Korngold and Goldmark. This album gathers three of his compositions: the Violin Sonata op. 103 from 1915, his final sonata in that form; the Piano Trio op. 115 from 1921, which incorporates Mahler-influenced elements; and the six Phantasiestucke op. 117 for viola and piano from 1927, among his last works.

Released in 2015 by Brilliant Classics on a single CD, this recording presents melodious chamber music that remains largely overlooked today. You can own this used copy at a fraction of the cost of a new one.
