Peter Cincotti

CD Details

Peter Cincotti’s self-titled debut arrived in 2003 as a jazz vocal album showcasing the then-19-year-old Columbia University student’s talents as both singer and pianist. Working with a lean quartet featuring bassist David Finck, drummer Kenny Washington, and saxophonist Scott Kreitzer, Cincotti navigates a carefully selected mix of standards and original compositions. His three originals, written with lyrics by his mother, include the swinging “I Changed the Rules” and “Are You the One?” alongside the ballad “Lovers, Secrets, Lies.” The album also reimagines rock-era songs like “Spinning Wheel” through a jazz lens, while a medley pairing “Fool on the Hill” with “Nature Boy” demonstrates his ability to make diverse material feel like established jazz repertoire.

This CD was released on Concord Records and produced by Phil Ramone, running approximately 45 minutes across ten tracks including “Comes Love,” “Sway,” “Miss Brown,” “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” and “Come Live Your Life with Me.” Picking up this used copy means owning a hand-inspected disc at a fraction of retail cost.
