Patlabor WXIII is a 2002 Japanese anime film that departs from the mecha-focused adventures of the original series. Set in Tokyo in the year 2000, veteran detective Kusumi and his younger partner Hata investigate a series of deadly accidents involving Labors in and around Tokyo Bay. Their investigation leads them to uncover a conspiracy involving military forces and a biological weapon. The case becomes personal when Hata’s girlfriend, Saeko, a genetic scientist, becomes a person of interest in their inquiry. Directed by Fumihiko Takayama and Takuji Endo, the film features voice work by Atsuko Tanaka, Daisuke Gri, Hiroaki Hirata, and others.

This single-disc DVD release from Pioneer runs 102 minutes and carries an R rating for violence, grotesque imagery, and profanity. The film takes a darker, more serious tone than the broadcast series, focusing on mystery and conspiracy rather than ensemble comedy. Grab this used copy and experience a grittier side of the Patlabor universe.
