Ondine is a 2009 Irish drama directed by Neil Jordan about a divorced fisherman named Syracuse who discovers a mysterious young woman in his fishing nets off the Irish coast. Played by Colin Farrell, Syracuse is a recovering alcoholic living with his daughter Annie in a small seaside village. When the enigmatic Ondine, portrayed by Alicja Bachleda-Curus, enters their lives, she seems to bring extraordinary luck to his catches. Annie begins to wonder if Ondine might be a selkie, a legendary seal-woman from Irish folklore, while Syracuse finds himself drawn into a magical romance tinged with uncertainty about Ondine’s true nature and whether she truly belongs in the human world.
