On the Classical Side is a 1993 solo piano recording by Brazilian pianist Eliane Elias on Angel Records. The album explores classical and folk traditions through works by four major composers. Elias opens with six pieces by Heitor Villa-Lobos, drawing from his various cycles and suites to present music ranging from baroque-influenced forms to modern Brazilian idioms. She then turns to Maurice Ravel’s Sonatina, followed by Johann Sebastian Bach’s French Suite No. 5 in G Major, and concludes with a selection of Frederic Chopin’s Mazurkas.

This single disc features Elias performing Villa-Lobos selections including Festa No Sertão, Preludio Introdução, Na Corda Da Viola, Manquinha, O Polichinelo, and Xô Passarinho, along with all three movements of Ravel’s Sonatina, the complete six movements of Bach’s French Suite, and four Chopin Mazurkas spanning different opus numbers. A used copy from us offers you the chance to own this classical recording at a fraction of retail cost.
