Director Tim Blake Nelson transposes Shakespeare’s Othello to a contemporary private high school setting in this 2001 drama. Josh Hartnett stars as Odin, a standout basketball player whose success at the elite academy breeds resentment in Hugo, the coach’s biological son. When Hugo devises a scheme to destroy Odin’s life and relationships, including his romance with Desi, the daughter of the school’s dean, the consequences spiral into tragedy. The film features Andrew Keegan, Anthony Johnson, Chris Dong, Elden Henson, and John Heard alongside Hartnett in this dark reimagining of the classic tale.
