Life and Death in the War Zone is a 1974 NOVA documentary that follows the medical personnel of the U.S. Army’s 10th and 21st Combat Support Hospital units during the Iraq War. Directed by Dimitri Doganis, Callum Macrae, Gary Glassman, and Kirk Wolfinger, the program offers an intimate look at how military medics, nurses, and doctors prepare for and respond to life-threatening injuries in combat conditions. The documentary tracks these healthcare workers from their intensive prewar training through their deployment in Kuwait and the Iraqi desert, revealing both the medical challenges and the difficult ethical decisions they face when treating Iraqi military and civilian casualties alongside American soldiers.

This single-disc DVD presentation runs 60 minutes and carries a TV-PG rating. The release includes closed captions and described video for the visually impaired, along with educational materials and scene selections. You’ll find the same documentary content as the original broadcast, now available as a used physical copy at a savings compared to new.
