Béla Fleck and Edgar Meyer unite banjo and stand-up bass on this 2004 Sony Masterworks release, blending classical masterworks with jazz standards and original compositions. The program draws from Bach’s baroque preludes, inventions, and partitas alongside a Miles Davis tune and works by Henry Eccles, all woven together with Fleck’s jazz-inflected originals and Meyer’s bluegrass-rooted pieces. Recorded live during 2001 concerts, the album demonstrates the remarkable range and subtlety these two virtuosos coax from their instruments, transcending traditional genre boundaries.
