Buckshot Lefonque is the fusion project of jazz musician Branford Marsalis, who explores experimental blends of funk, hip-hop, and jazz rather than his straight-ahead jazz work released under his own name. Released in 1997, Music Evolution brings together Marsalis with collaborators including trumpeter Russell Gunn, keyboardist Joey Calderazzo, saxophonist David Sanborn, and bassist Ben Wolfe. The group layers funk rhythms, hip-hop loops, and Latin-jazz influences across instrumental and vocal tracks, creating an energetic fusion that showcases the musicians having fun with their craft and running changes over diverse grooves and beats.

This is a CD on Columbia Records containing eight full-length tracks including “Here We Go Again,” “Music Evolution,” “James Brown (Part 1 & 2),” “Try These On,” “My Way (Doin’ It),” “Better Than I Am,” and others. You’re getting a used copy of this 1997 fusion album that blends the harmonic imagination of bebop with contemporary hip-hop and funk sensibilities.
