Mule Variations is Tom Waits’ 1999 album, created with his wife and collaborator Kathleen Brennan alongside musicians Ralph Carney and Smokey Hormel. Seven years after Bone Machine, Waits returned with a collection that balances experimental soundscapes with tender ballads, blending creative noise with carefully crafted melodies. The record reflects his characteristic approach of mixing the rough with the refined, featuring unconventional vocal experiments alongside more straightforward songs that explore themes of longing and human struggle.

This CD release contains twelve tracks including “Big In Japan,” “Get Behind The Mule,” “House Where Nobody Lives,” and “What’s He Building?” The album runs approximately fifty-five minutes and showcases Waits’ distinctive voice and his band’s instrumental contributions. A used copy from us means you own a physical recording of one of his most acclaimed works without the new retail cost.
