Mr Handel’s Dinner presents music composed for the intermissions of Handel’s operatic productions in 1730s London. Recorder virtuoso Maurice Steger and the ensemble La Cetra perform works drawn from Handel’s own compositions alongside pieces by contemporaries including Arcangelo Corelli. These instrumental selections, ranging from recorder concertos to orchestral suites and chamber works, were originally written to entertain audiences during the breaks between acts of Handel’s major works.

Released in 2019 on the Harmonia Mundi label, this CD features seven tracks of Baroque instrumental music performed on period instruments. The program includes Handel’s Concerto for Recorder, Suite for Orchestra, Sonata for Flute and Harpsichord, and Passacaille, along with arrangements of works by other composers of the era. Add this recording to your collection at a fraction of the cost of a new copy.
