George Balanchine choreographed this 1999 ballet adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, set to Felix Mendelssohn’s celebrated score. The Pacific Northwest Ballet brings the comedy to life, following young Hermia as she navigates conflicting romantic interests with Lysander and Demetrius while the fairy rulers Titania and Oberon manipulate the affairs of mortals and enchanted creatures alike. Kevin Kline, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Rupert Everett appear alongside the dancers in this production that combines theatrical storytelling with classical ballet.

This Blu-ray release presents the performance in high definition across one disc, running 96 minutes with a PG-13 rating from Fox Searchlight Pictures and Opus Arte. The production features the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Stewart Kershaw, with choreography by Balanchine and stage direction by Kent Stowell and Francia Russell.
