Mario Lanza performs selections from two classic operettas by Sigmund Romberg on this 1989 CD. The first half features songs Lanza recorded for the 1954 MGM film The Student Prince, including beloved numbers like Serenade, Golden Days, Drink, Drink, Drink, and I’ll Walk With God. Though Lanza originally sang some of these pieces with soprano Ann Blyth, her vocals have been replaced by Elizabeth Doubleday on this recording. The second half presents highlights from The Desert Song, recorded in Rome during the final months of Lanza’s life in 1959, with soprano Judith Raskin accompanying him on several selections.

Released on the Masterworks label, this CD collects Lanza’s interpretations of musical theater standards conducted by Constantine Callinicos. The recordings span from 1952 through 1959, capturing the tenor’s artistry across nearly a decade. Add this piece of stage and screen history to your collection at a used price.
