Mandoboppin is a 2013 jazz album by mandolinist Don Stiernberg, recorded with his frequent collaborators from the Chicagoland area. The project features Stiernberg’s original compositions alongside two jazz standards, performed by a group including Andy Brown on guitar, Jim Cox on bass, Larry Harris on piano, and Phil Gratteau on drums. The original tunes span swing, bebop, latin, and contemporary styles, showcasing the mandolin in a fresh jazz context while the ensemble delivers expert improvisation and sensitive interplay throughout.

Released on CD Baby, this CD contains ten tracks including Life Itself, Questions And Answers, Mandoboppin’, Bix In Rio, Donniebrook, The Very Thought Of You, Three Down Town, The Wacky Waltz, Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea, and more, with a total runtime of approximately 52 minutes. Producer and engineer Steve Rashid captured the acoustic sound of the instruments with clarity and warmth. Add this mandolin-driven jazz recording to your collection at a used price.
