Living It Up is a 2000 Spanish comedy-drama directed by Antonio Cuadri and written by Carlos Asorey and Fernando León de Aranoa. When Martin, a bus driver played by Carmelo Gomez, contemplates ending his life from a bridge, he receives an unusual proposition: borrow a massive sum from the mob, live lavishly for one week, then follow through with his plan. Martin accepts and begins throwing extravagant parties, inviting strangers from random phone book pages. His outlook shifts dramatically when he meets Lola, a waitress portrayed by Salma Hayek, and begins to reconsider whether life might be worth living. The film weaves together elements of romance and con-game thriller as unexpected twists emerge and Martin’s deadline approaches.
