Review

Singer-songwriter Kerry Getz has defied the odds on her newly released Live at the Galaxy, a worthy follow-up to Apollo. — OC Register, June 2, 2000

Product Description

Armed with only an acoustic guitar and a microphone, Kerry performs all new material, released in 2000.

About the Artist

Growing up in Southern California, Kerry was entranced by her older brother’s record collection. When that same brother received a guitar for Christmas, Kerry’s fate was sealed. She spent countless hours locked in her room with his guitar, teaching herself to play.
In addition to headlining shows, Kerry has opened for numerous artists, including Neil Finn, Shawn Colvin, Richard Thompson, Nick Lowe, Willy Porter and John Mayer. After opening for Donovan at the Henry Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles, management was so impressed they asked her to perform at the 6,000 seat Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on a bill with Creedence Clearwater Revisited.
Getz has also been included on many compilation CDs, including the Martin Newell tribute ReNewell as well as Coast to Coast, a collection of songs from North American female singer/songwriters which was just released by the German label, JarMusic. She has been named “2002 Female Artist of the Year” by the Just Plain Folks Music Awards and nominated for the same title by the Orange County Music Awards. And becoming a bit of a local celebrity in Southern California, Kerry was featured on “Sound Affects,” the acclaimed music and interview series on PBS station, KOCE-TV.
A rare artist who combines enthusiasm, integrity, and determination with the talent to back it up, Kerry recognizes a responsibility that comes with her passion: “I can’t quite put into words what keeps me going. The whole music industry is pretty strange. As the big labels con-tinue to prefabricate and homogenize music, I think it’s just that much more important for independent artists to remain true to their vision. In its truest sense, real music should be honest and uncorrupted. It’s up to the indie artists to do what we can to try and keep it on that course.”
