Life's Rich Pageant

CD Details

R.E.M. released Life’s Rich Pageant in 1986 as an alternative rock album that marked a notable shift in how the band presented Michael Stipe’s vocals. While the group’s earlier work often buried the singer’s voice beneath Peter Buck’s distinctive jangly guitar work and Mike Mills’s bass lines, this record brings Stipe’s lyrics to the forefront, making them clearly audible even when their meaning remains cryptic. The album balances radio-friendly tracks like “Fall on Me” with harder-edged songs such as “Begin the Begin” and “These Days,” while also exploring more introspective, folk-influenced territory. The band playfully listed songs out of order on the sleeve and excluded a couple of tracks from the final release.

This CD comes from MCA and contains eleven tracks including “Begin the Begin,” “These Days,” “Fall on Me,” “Cuyahoga,” “Hyena,” “Underneath the Bunker,” “The Flowers of Guatemala,” “I Believe,” “What If We Give It Away?,” “Just a Touch,” and additional material.
