The League of Gentlemen is a British comedy-horror series that premiered in 1999, created by and starring Mark Gatiss, Reece Shearsmith, and Steve Pemberton. Set in the grim northern English town of Royston Vasey, the show presents a darkly absurd cast of characters including a hirsute taxi driver, an obsessively clean family, an apathetic priest, and the deeply disturbing Edward and Tubbs, proprietors of the Local Shop. With bleak humor reminiscent of Samuel Beckett and the transgressive sensibility of Monty Python, the series blends sketch comedy with bizarre soap opera storytelling, weaving together plot threads across more than a dozen major characters all performed by the three writers.

This is the complete first season on a single DVD from the BBC, running three hours with a TV-MA rating. The show’s surreal and wickedly inventive comedy ignores conventional boundaries of good taste, making it essential viewing for fans of dark British humor. You can own this cult classic on physical media at a used price.
