Latina is a 2015 jazz and world music album by Cristina Pato, a Galician bagpiper and pianist who has performed with Yo Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble. The recording explores cultural connections between Europe and South America by tracing how six-beat rhythmic patterns from Latin music in Europe evolved and migrated across the Atlantic, creating new musical forms in South America. Pato leads an ensemble of musicians skilled in both jazz and traditional folk styles through a diverse program of compositions.

This single-disc release on the Sunnyside label features Pato’s investigations into how Latin musical elements have spread across continents and cultures. Picking up a used copy lets you experience this thoughtful exploration of musical heritage at a fraction of the original retail cost.
