Aram Khachaturian composed his Symphony No. 1 in E Minor in 1934 and his Symphony No. 3 in C in 1947. The latter, subtitled Symphony-Poem, was written to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Russian Revolution and premiered in Leningrad that December under conductor Yevgeny Mravinsky. Khachaturian’s final symphonic work, it stands as a single-movement piece featuring organ and fifteen trumpets, designed as a celebration of Soviet pride and joy, though its bold, unconventional style and instrumentation drew criticism from cultural authorities.

This ASV Digital CD from 1993 presents both symphonies performed by the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra under conductor Loris Tjeknavorian, with organist Arthur Adamian featured in the third symphony. The disc runs approximately 61 minutes in stereo. Acquire this classical recording used and own a piece of Soviet-era orchestral ambition.
