Kathryn Bigelow directs this 2002 historical thriller starring Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson. During the Cold War, Russia launches its first nuclear submarine, the K-19, under the command of the stern Captain Alexi Vostrikov. Serving as executive officer is the respected Mikhail Polenin, whose relationship with Vostrikov is marked by tension despite their shared dedication to their country. When the vessel heads toward American waters, the crew discovers a catastrophic problem: the nuclear reactor is leaking dangerously. With the ship and its missiles at risk, Vostrikov and his men must confront impossible choices about duty, honor, and what they are willing to sacrifice.
