Richard Elliot, a prominent figure in contemporary jazz saxophone, released Jumpin’ Off in 1997 as his first collaboration with producer Paul Brown. This album marks a significant departure from Elliot’s typically aggressive approach, featuring a more relaxed and gradually building sound. Rather than explosive energy, the record showcases carefully developed compositions that allow the saxophonist to explore a different side of his artistry. Tracks like “One Last Kiss” and “All Night” demonstrate Elliot’s ability to caress melodies with restraint, contrasting with his usual style of pushing notes to their limits and commanding dynamic range.

This CD contains nine tracks spanning over forty minutes of contemporary jazz, including the title track “Jumpin’ Off,” “Slow Burn,” “In The Groove,” and “Nobody Knows.” Issued by the label during Elliot’s peak years in the genre, this used copy lets you experience a pivotal moment in his discography without the cost of a new release.
