CD Details
John Gracie pays tribute to Gene MacLellan, one of Canada’s most celebrated songwriters, on this 1995 folk album. Gracie, himself an accomplished tunesmith, interprets ten MacLellan compositions with thoughtful arrangements that allow the melodies to shine. His rich baritone voice brings warmth and dignity to classics like “Snowbird,” “Put Your Hand in the Hand,” and “The Call,” each given space to breathe rather than rushed. The MacLellan family has praised Gracie’s work as both a gift to Canadian music and the finest interpretation of Gene’s songs.
This single CD contains ten tracks showcasing Gracie’s restrained, melody-focused approach to MacLellan’s catalog. Notable moments include a straightforward country arrangement of “Snowbird” and a heartfelt rendition of “Put Your Hand in the Hand” featuring the North Preston Choir and Gracie’s own children on the chorus. Grab this used copy and experience a respectful, moving tribute to a Canadian songwriting legend.
