Jazz at the Philharmonic 1956 captures a live concert recorded in Hamburg, Germany on February 29, 1956, during the JATP’s fifth annual European tour. The JATP All-Stars perform a collection of bop and swing standards, including My Man, These Foolish Things, Rockin’ Chair, and Lullaby Of The Leaves, along with multiple jam session takes that showcase the musicians’ inventive interplay and consistent musicality throughout the evening.

This 2007 reissue from Fresh Sound Records presents the concert as a 2-disc set in digitally remastered sound, accompanied by a 16-page booklet and a facsimile reproduction of the original German program distributed during the tour. These previously unreleased recordings represent one of the few undocumented JATP shows to emerge in recent years, offering a window into the relaxed spirit and high level of inspiration that defined these legendary performances.
