It's About Time

CD Details

It’s About Time is the 1992 debut album from SWV, a trio of teenage singers from New York whose name stands for Sisters with Voices. The group features lead vocalist Cheryl “Coko” Gordon alongside two other talented harmonizers, bringing together modern new-jack-swing production with the kind of gospel-soul vocal traditions that had recently proven successful in the mainstream. Many of the album’s strongest tracks were written and produced by Brian Alexander Morgan, who crafted melodies designed to showcase the group’s distinctive harmonies. Standout songs like the funky “Right Here” and the romantic ballad “Weak” demonstrate how the singers’ voices can command a production, with Gordon’s range allowing her to shift between tough, sultry tones and lighter, more flirtatious moments.

This CD contains 13 tracks plus two alternate mixes, offering a full introduction to SWV’s sound. Pick up a used copy of It’s About Time and own a piece of early 1990s R&B and hip-hop history at a fraction of retail cost.
