Isang Yun was a Korean composer whose chamber works explore intricate textures and harmonic innovation. This 1990 recording features the Nomos Quartett performing four of his compositions spanning nearly three decades. String Quartet No. 3, written between 1959 and 1961, establishes Yun’s distinctive voice in the medium, while the 1983 Concertino for Accordion and String Quartet brings an unusual instrumental combination to his catalog. Tapis for String Quintet from 1987 and String Quartet No. 4 from 1988 showcase the evolution of his compositional language, with the latter being his most substantial work on the album.

Released on CD by Nomos Quartett with accordionist Mie Miki, this album contains all four pieces with a total runtime of approximately 48 minutes. Owning this used copy lets you explore Yun’s chamber music legacy at a fraction of retail cost.
