Instant Dreams is a 2017 Dutch documentary directed by Willem Baptist that explores Edwin H. Land’s groundbreaking creation of the Polaroid camera and its enduring impact on photography and culture. The film weaves together visual essays, archival materials, and interviews with devoted Polaroid enthusiasts and engineers to trace the chemistry, artistry, and history behind this transformative technology. Through the stories of people passionate about instant film, the documentary examines how Land’s vision continues to resonate with photographers in our digital age, even after Polaroid’s closure in 2008 forced a group of dedicated engineers to attempt recreating the lost formula for instant film.
