He’Olu is the debut album from Holunape, a Hawaiian folk group featuring Kama Hopkins, Keola Kaluhiwa, and Kanai’a Nakamura. Released in 2005, the album presents traditional Hawaiian music performed in the style of the 1940s and 1950s, drawing from the rich cultural heritage of the islands. The group’s authentic approach to these songs earned them Na Hoku Hanohano Awards for Group of the Year and Hawaiian Language Album of the Year.
This CD contains ten tracks including Nohea, Iā ‘Oe E Ka Lā E ‘Āloha Nei, Holo Lio, and Ku’u Lei Kiele, showcasing both vocal and instrumental arrangements that highlight the distinctive Hawaiian musical tradition.
