What begins as a personal conflict rooted in Civil War desertion escalates into cycles of violence driven by property disputes, miscommunications, and acts of vengeance. The narrative follows how generational hatred perpetuates itself across families, with younger members like a pair of star-crossed lovers caught between the warring sides, while volatile relatives like Jim Vance fuel the bloodshed with reckless actions.
