Product Description
Anne arranged and recorded a special Celtic wedding music CD called “Haste to the Wedding,” in direct response to the many requests she received from brides and grooms. “Haste to the Wedding” is popular with couples looking for romantic music to accompany their wedding festivities. It includes traditional Celtic music played on solo harp accompanied by an ensemble of traditional instruments. This CD is enclosed in a 48-page hardcover book containing vintage color images, Celtic toasts, blessings, legends, wedding traditions, and recipes. It’s a “must-have” for weddings.
Review
The first thing to notice about this album is its exceptional packaging–a small gift book, with embossed lacy texture on the cover and a cutout to show the first of many full-color illustrations. The CD is in a sleeve bound into the book, which contains not only the playlist but also recipes, fragments of poetry, old sayings, and snippets of lore about traditional Celtic weddings.
Roos’s accomplished playing offers wedding selections that range from prelude to processional, music during the ceremony, and recessional pieces. Prelude pieces include a haunting “My True Love’s Hair” followed by an equally compelling “My Lagan Love,” a stately rendition of “Ay Waukin O!” the second and third airs of “Bridget Cruise,” and more. Among the processional tracks is an elegant rendering of the “Manx Courting Song,” which begins with simple harp notes and then fills out with the sounds of bodhran and mandolin, and “The Gentle Maiden,” a harp solo. There is also a lovely waltz version of “Star of the County Down.” Ceremony music includes a return to “Bridget Cruise” for the first and fourth airs, a poignant version of”She Moved Through the Fair” that pairs harp with fiddle and then adds mandolin, and the sweet strains of “Women of Ireland.”
Other instruments on the album include accordion, guitar, hardingfele, the aforementioned mandolin and octave mandolin, bodhran, and other percussion. As a device for brides to choose music for their weddings, this is a clever idea; as a keepsake favor from a wedding, it would be a delight. –Fall 2006 Issue of the Folk Harp Journal, published by the International Society of Folk Harpers and Craftsmen
