Corb Lund & the Hurtin’ Albertans released this country album in 2005, drawing from the artist’s Western upbringing and decade spent in the indie rock scene. The record blends traditional cowboy storytelling with diverse roots music influences including western swing, rockabilly, ragtime, and acoustic blues. Songs like “Hair In My Eyes Like A Highland Steer,” “The Truck Got Stuck,” and “Always Keep An Edge On Your Knife” showcase Lund’s inventive lyrics and rhythmic approach to rural Alberta themes, from rodeo life to highway travels. The album features special guest appearances and was recorded in Nashville with producer Harry Stinson.
