Good Night, And Good Luck. (Original Soundtrack)

CD Details

Dianne Reeves lends her cool contralto voice to this 2005 jazz album inspired by George Clooney’s film about Edward R. Murrow’s legendary confrontation with Senator Joseph McCarthy during the 1950s. Accompanied by a quicksilver ensemble featuring saxophonist Matt Catingub and pianist Peter Martin, Reeves performs jazz standards and period pieces arranged in cool jazz and post-bop styles. The album includes classics like “Straighten Up and Fly Right,” Duke Ellington’s “Solitude,” and “How High the Moon,” alongside selections with Latin rhythms such as “Too Close for Comfort.” Murrow’s deep love of jazz made it a fitting choice for the soundtrack, as the music’s foundation in freedom and improvisation mirrors the film’s themes of liberty and resistance.

Released on the Concord label, this CD features Reeves’ flawless and swinging delivery across mostly mid-tempo and ballad interpretations of beloved standards. Add this used copy to your collection at a fraction of retail cost.
