Jamaican jazz pianist Monty Alexander released Goin’ Yard in 2001, a vibrant fusion of Caribbean rhythms and piano-driven jazz. Alexander’s style blends bebop vocabulary with blues-rooted melodies and a bright swinging feel, drawing from influences ranging from Oscar Peterson to Ahmad Jamal. The album features his interpretations of reggae standards like “Could You Be Loved” and “King Tubby Meets The Rockers Uptown” alongside original compositions that showcase his gift for surprising musical twists and intense dramatic climaxes.

This single-disc CD was released on the Telarc label and includes eleven tracks spanning nearly seventy minutes, from the opening “The Serpent” through extended pieces like the ten-minute “Exodus” and the seven-minute “Grub.” Alexander’s melodica and vocals appear throughout, adding textural depth to his piano work.
