Genesis, one of Northern California’s leading gospel choirs proudly presents their sophomore album release to the public entitled Genesitical. This album is a musical compilation of new traditional gospel choir songs that exemplify the experience of radical praise and uncompromising worship unique to the spirit-filled ministry of the Genesis Missionary Baptist Church of Sacramento, CA.
The Genesis choir is lead by Pastor Dr. Robert Porter and director, Tecoy Porter. The band for “Genesitical” features local gospel greats Bobby Adams on piano, Rufus Yabrough and Preston Hay on bass, brothers Kevin and Tyrone Adams on drums and Minister Ellington Porter on Hammond C-3 who also served as music director. This band also enlisted the talents of internationally acclaimed artist and writers such as living legend D.J. Rogers formerly on UPN’s Good News, James “Big Jimmy” Wright formerly of the Sounds of Blackness, and Tracy Carter songwriter for D.R.S., Lawrence Mathews, and the L.A. Mass Choir.

About the Artist

The Genesis Choir is the primary choir of the Genesis Missionary Baptist Church in Sacramento, CA, which is pastored by Dr. Robert Porter. The Genesis Baptist Church is a living testimony of God’s blessing and God’s ability to make a way out of no way! Born out of need on April 1, 1990, the church started with 200 members and has grown to over 1,500 members.
The Genesis choir, affectionately known as Genesis, has been an integral part of the ministry of the church in spreading the word of God through song to those willing to listen. Because of their efforts and the musical leadership of the “Porter Brothers” (Rev. Tecoy Porter and Minister Ellington Porter, Genesis has been blessed to reach many people and gain the reputation of being one of the most dynamic and spirit-filled choirs in Northern California.
Awards and accomplishments made by Genesis include receiving the Best Church Choir of the year award in 1994 by Sacramento’s Inspirational Music Awards, and a nomination for the Best Church Choir in Northern California by the Bay Area Gospel Music Awards in 1996. In 1998, Genesis won the BAGMA Best Church Choir award.
In 1995, Genesis made a successful entry into the national gospel music industry with the release of their first recording “Be Ready He’s Coming Back”. In 1998 Genesis released their sophomore recording “Genesitical” with contributions from internationally acclaimed artist and writers such as living legend DJ Rogers, James “Big Jimmy” Wright formerly of the Sounds of Blackness, and Tracy Carter writer for D.R.S., Lawrence Matthews, LA Mass and many others.
The Genesis choir has toured many different cities throughout the United States, and has performed for crowds of over 6,000 strong. They have also been featured on the Bobby Jones Gospel Show, which airs internationally on BET.
