Franz Schmidt’s “Das Buch Mit Sieben Siegeln” (The Book of the Seven Seals) is an oratorio composed by the Austrian master. This large-scale choral work sets biblical text to music, creating a dramatic spiritual narrative. Eberhard Büchner conducts the ensemble and soloists, including soprano Gabriele Fontana, through Schmidt’s richly orchestrated score.

This CD release from 1996 contains the complete oratorio on a single disc. You’ll own a recording of one of Schmidt’s most ambitious compositions, performed by accomplished classical musicians, at a fraction of what a new copy would cost.
