Finding Forrester is a 2000 film directed by Gus Van Sant about an urban teenager who loves basketball and writing and forms an unlikely friendship with a reclusive novelist played by Sean Connery. The soundtrack features jazz compositions and arrangements that draw from Miles Davis’s early 1970s work, incorporating influences from Ornette Coleman and guitarist Bill Frisell. Davis collaborated with Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and Tony Williams to create a groundbreaking blend of funk and rock that went beyond traditional fusion.

This one-disc CD soundtrack was released by Sony Legacy and includes ten tracks ranging from the ambient, calming pieces like “Recollections” and “Lonely Fire” to funkier selections such as “Black Satin.” Several tracks come from Davis’s landmark Bitches Brew sessions. The album captures jazz during a transitional period, blending polyrhythmic funk with independent improvisational approaches. Grab this used copy and experience the music that accompanies this film about creativity and unlikely connections.
