Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within is a 2001 Japanese animated sci-fi action film directed by Hironobu Sakaguchi and Motonori Sakakibara. Scientist Aki Ross, voiced by Ming-Na Wen, must collect eight spirits to create a protective force against an alien invasion threatening Earth. The film features groundbreaking motion-capture animation and an ensemble cast including Alec Baldwin, Steve Buscemi, and Ving Rhames.

This special edition DVD contains two discs with a runtime of 106 minutes and a PG-13 rating from Sony Pictures Releasing. Disc one includes two feature-length commentaries, an isolated score with composer Elliot Goldenthal’s remarks, and 81 minutes of scenes with storyboards and rough animation. Disc two offers a 30-minute making-of documentary, character profiles with voice actor and animator information, vehicle sketches, and an editing tool for the council-conference scene. Own this used copy and experience the technical innovation that defined early 2000s animation.
