Evan Cowden is a self-titled debut album from a vocalist trained at Berklee College of Music, where he studied alongside artists including Paula Cole. After relocating to Los Angeles and New York in 1990, Cowden immersed himself in late-night club culture and developed a nu electro sound drawing from 1980s new-wave and synth-pop influences. His vocal style channels artists like Jimmy Somerville, Lisa Stansfield, and Alison Moyet, while the production blends the heavy synthesizer arrangements of Vince Clarke and the Pet Shop Boys with contemporary house and R&B elements, creating electronic pop designed for the dance floor.
