Dragon’s Return is a 1968 Czechoslovak drama directed by Eduard Grecner and based on a novella by Dobroslav Chrobak. The film follows Martin Leaps, a potter known as Dragon, who returns to his remote village years after being falsely accused of a crime and cast out by his community. His homecoming stirs up deep tensions as suspicion and fear grip the isolated settlement, setting the stage for a story exploring love, hatred, and the possibility of redemption. Emília Vásáryová, Gustáv Valach, Ivan Macho, and Ján Mildner lead the cast in this portrait of rural life shaped by prejudice and isolation.

This single-disc DVD release runs 85 minutes and comes from Ústrední Pujcovna Filmu. Grecner’s visually striking monochrome cinematography captures the bleak beauty of peasant existence, while the film’s psychological depth and poetic atmosphere create a haunting meditation on community, justice, and human nature. You can own this rare Slovak cinema gem on physical media at a used price.
