Product Description
On his newest CD, Hank Cramer weaves traditional and contempoorary songs into a rich picture of life in the American and Canadian West. The CD features several sea-shanties, Hank’s stock-in-trade as actual shantyman aboard the square-rigger “Lady Washington”. He sings plaintive ballads of life on the frontier from some of his favorite writers. These include Ian Tyson’s “Four Rode By”, the story of a Canadian outlaw gang; John Sparrow’s “Narrow-Gauge Line” about the mountain railroads of Colorado; and James Keelaghan’s spine-tingling “Cold Missouri Waters”, about smokejumpers facing death in Montana’s wilderness. Hank is joined on this project by guitarist David Rea (previously with Ian & Sylvia, Mountain, and Gordon Lightfoot)who adds brilliant accompaniment to Hank’s booming voice.
About the Artist
Hank Cramer is a traveling folksinger who is expanding his circles from the Pacific Northwest to a national touring circuit. Armed with a rich bass voice and a vintage Martin guitar, he sings traditional and contemporary ballads about life at sea, down in the mines,and out on the frontier. While his style is unique, he acknowledges heavy influence in his early years from the likes of John Stewart, Gordon Lightfoot, Ian Tyson, and Stan Rogers. Hank has recorded two solo CD’s and a television soundtrack, and has appeared on CD’s by at least 10 other artists. He is an annual favorite at folk festivals around North America. When not on the road, he lives on a small ranch in Washington’s Methow Valley.
