Days Gone By is a 1999 folk album by Hank Cramer featuring a blend of traditional and contemporary songs rooted in life across the American and Canadian West. Cramer, known for his commanding bass voice and wide repertoire, draws material from respected songwriters including Ian Tyson, John Sparrow, and James Keelaghan. The album weaves together sea shanties from Cramer’s experience as an actual shantyman aboard the square-rigger Lady Washington, frontier ballads, and stories of life in remote regions. Guitarist David Rea, who previously worked with Ian and Sylvia, Mountain, and Gordon Lightfoot, provides accompaniment throughout the project.

This single-disc CD was released on the Ferryboat Music label and includes tracks such as Four Rode By, Shady Grove, Cold Missouri Waters, and Monroe’s Hornpipe. A traveling folksinger armed with his vintage Martin guitar, Cramer brings authenticity to narratives about seafaring, mining, and frontier life. Grab this used copy and own a piece of West Coast folk tradition.
