Das Boot (Director's Cut)

Movie / Show Details

Wolfgang Petersen’s 1981 war drama follows a German U-boat crew during World War II as they hunt Allied vessels while facing constant danger from enemy forces. Starring Jürgen Prochnow as the captain alongside Herbert Gronemeyer and Klaus Wennemann, the film traps viewers inside the claustrophobic submarine as psychological and physical tensions mount. Originally conceived as a five-hour miniseries, this director’s cut expands the narrative to develop the crew’s relationships before they descend into the depths, where they become hunted themselves and must endure unbearable pressure and fear.

This single-disc DVD presents the restored director’s cut at 149 minutes, rated R, from Triumph Films. Petersen’s unflinching direction creates a visceral, terrifying realism as the vessel sinks and mechanical failures threaten the crew’s survival, building tension to nearly unbearable levels. A hand-inspected copy of this acclaimed war thriller awaits you at a fraction of what you’d pay for new.
