Dandy Warhols Come Down

CD Details

The Dandy Warhols’ 1997 major-label debut blends psychedelic guitar work with 1990s alternative rock sensibilities. Fronted by Courtney Taylor, the Portland quartet layers 1960s-influenced riffs with contemporary Brit-pop elements, creating a sound that recalls Neil Young meets Oasis on tracks like “Boys Better” and “Minnesoter.” The album balances intricate, lush guitar textures from Taylor and Peter Holmstrom with detached, sleepy vocals and cooing female backing harmonies from Zia McCabe. Drug references and wry observations permeate the record, most memorably on the jangly post-grunge anthem “Not If You Were the Last Junkie on Earth,” which dismisses heroin as outdated with its unforgettable chorus.

Come Down is a CD released on Capitol France containing ten tracks including “Be-In,” “Orange,” “I Love You,” “Every Day Should Be A Holiday,” “Good Morning,” “Whipping Tree,” and “Green.” Picking up a used copy lets you experience this indie rock gem at a fraction of retail cost.
