CD Details
Cruel Sister is the 2005 debut from Rachel Unthank & The Winterset, a British folk ensemble led by sisters Rachel and Becky Unthank. Rooted in traditional folk music passed down through their family, the album blends heritage material with contemporary musical sensibilities, creating a sound that refuses to play it safe. The group draws from deep wells of folk tradition while pushing the genre forward with inventive arrangements and unflinching artistic choices.
This CD contains 13 tracks including “On A Monday Morning,” “January Man,” “Fair Rosamund,” the title track “Cruel Sister,” and “The Fair Flower Of Northumberland.” Originally released in 2006 and reissued in 2010 on the Rabble Rouser label, the album showcases the Unthanks’ distinctive approach to folk music.
